We Could All Use One Of Ina Garten’s Gigantic Cosmos Right Now

Ina Garten is a gift. The “Barefoot Contessa” star has been busy during quarantine, sharing simple recipes you can make with ingredients that are probably in your pantry already. And earlier this week, she delighted fans with a big batch cocktail…for one.

At 9:27 a.m. on Wednesday, the Food Network personality posted an Instagram video from her kitchen. “It's always cocktail hour in a crisis!” the caption reads. She starts by telling her followers that during tough times, it's “really important to keep traditions alive.” Her favorite tradition? Cocktail hour, she says without skipping a beat.

She then goes on to share her favorite cosmopolitan recipe. “I like to make a lot of cosmos,” she explains as she dumps an entire bottle of Grey Goose vodka into a large pitcher. “You never know who’s going to stop by — wait a minute, nobody’s stopping by!”

Garten then pours the mixture into a comically large cocktail shaker, which is half-full of ice, and says you have to shake it for at least 30 seconds. “You have lots of time, it's not a problem,” she jokes.

Finally, still sounding perfectly reasonable, she pulls out a gigantic martini glass and pours in the entire batch. “I would say, in these times, this is really important,” she says. “So just pour it right in. Oh, doesn't that look fabulous? Nice and cold. And lots of it!”

She finishes the video by taking a big sip, then encouraging viewers to “stay safe and have a very good time.” Here's to hoping Garten continues to post cocktail recipes, because she's right–we need 'em. In the meantime, whip up a quarantini with her big batch cosmo recipe below.

Ina Garten's Gigantic Cosmo

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (16 ounces) “good vodka”
  • 1 cup (8 ounces) Triple Sec, Cointreau or “any kind of orange liqueur”
  • 1 cup (8 ounces) bottled cranberry juice cocktail
  • 1/2 cup freshly squeezed lime juice (3 limes)

You'll also need:

  • Large pitcher
  • Large cocktail shaker
  • Large martini glass
  • Large sense of humor

Instructions, per her website: Combine the vodka, triple sec, cranberry juice, and lime juice in pitcher. Fill a cocktail shaker 1/2 full with ice, then pour the cosmo mixture into the cocktail shaker until it’s 3/4 full and shake for 30 seconds. Strain the comso mixture into chilled martini glasses and serve immediately.
