One word: Wow. Celebrities stepped out in exquisite fashion last night for the 92nd Academy Awards, concluding the frenzy of awards season in style. Many nominees trended toward the classic black and white color palette, including Renée Zellweger and Cynthia Erivo, while others brought a pop of color to the red carpet (we're looking at you, Florence Pugh). There were plenty of embellishments, too. Performer Janelle Monae shined bright in a custom gown that was encrusted with 168,000 Swarovski crystals. It took over 600 hours of hand-embroidery to complete. But the most notable mention is Natalie Portman, who used the red carpet to make a statement on gender equality. Her cape was embroidered with a list of all the deserving female directors and other creatives who weren’t nominated for an award this year.
