Congratulations are in order for Cardi B. Not only did she take home five awards at last night’s BET Awards, including for Female Hip-Hop Artist, Viewer’s Choice, and Video of the Year, but she also announced her second pregnancy during a surprise performance with her husband Offset.
While Offset and his group Migos were performing a mashup of hit songs, Cardi B made a cameo for “Type S–,” surprising the audience and viewers at home with her baby bump. Stepping on stage in a bedazzled jumpsuit with belly-baring mesh by Dolce & Gabbana, the hip-hop sensation stunned as she revealed the big secret while rapping and dancing without missing a beat.
Of course, the audience at Los Angeles’s Microsoft Theater went wild for the announcement, as did viewers on social media. “OMG!!!!!! @iamcardib breaking some MAJOR news! Pregnant and slaying,” the official Twitter account for the BET Awards tweeted out during the performance. “I thought my eyes was playing tricks on me,” one fan responded. “Congrats sis!”
When the show returned from a commercial break, awards host Taraji P. Henson also referenced the major moment, saying, “Let’s go back to Cardi B and Offset giving us life — literally!”
Shortly after the performance, Cardi B took to Instagram to share an official announcement with her her more than 97 million followers. “#2! ♥️” she captioned a photo sharing the happy news. The image shows Cardi’s nude profile with her pregnant belly and breasts covered in white plaster.
Meanwhile, Offset announced the news on his own Instagram account. Sharing a photo from their BET Awards performance, he simply wrote, “#2.” The on-again-off-again couple, who were married in September 2017, are also parents to daughter Kulture Kiari, who turns 3 in July.
Cardi B announced her pregnancy with Kulture in a similar fashion, while performing on Saturday Night Live back in August 2018. She follows in the footsteps of celebrities like Beyoncé, who famously announced her first pregnancy while performing at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, as well as Nicki Minaj and M.I.A.
While no further details on her second pregnancy have been shared, the rapper appears to be pretty far along — well into her second trimester or perhaps even into her third. Check out Cardi B’s pregnancy announcement during her 2021 BET Awards performance below.
