It’s official! Halsey has given birth to her first child. On Monday, the 26-year-old singer shared an Instagram post announcing that she and boyfriend Alev Aydin welcomed their newborn on July 14, 2021.
“Gratitude. For the most ‘rare; and euphoric birth. Powered by love,” she wrote in the caption, along with a snap of her and Aydin with their new baby followed by one of her breastfeeding. “Ender Ridley Aydin 7/14/2021.”
The couple didn’t reveal the sex of the baby, but according to BabyNames.com, “Ender” is a Turkish name traditionally used for males and means “extremely rare.” (New dad Aydin has Turkish roots.)
Halsey first announced that she and Aydin, a 38-year-old actor and screenwriter, were expecting a baby in January. She posted a series of photos on Instagram showing off her baby bump while wearing a pair of loose-fitting jeans and a rainbow crochet halter top (and a couple of photos sans shirt).
On Twitter, she shared the news the caption, “my rainbow?,” referencing her fertility struggles and previous miscarriages. The pregnancy announcement also served as the official confirmation of Halsey and Aydin’s relationship.
Earlier this month, Halsey revealed the cover art for her upcoming album titled If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power. Along with a striking image of Halsey sitting on a throne and holding a baby with one breast exposed, she explained that the album was an exploration of “the joys and horrors of pregnancy and childbirth.”
“It was very important to me that the cover art conveyed the sentiment of my journey over the past few months,” she continued. “The dichotomy of the Madonna and the Whore. The idea that me as a sexual being and my body as a vessel and gift to my child are two concepts that can co-exist peacefully and powerfully.”
Surely, fans can look forward to learning more details about Halsey’s new baby as well as her forthcoming album, which drops on August 27.
