Nicola Peltz Beckham is getting increased attention for her weight loss in recent Instagram posts. But the reason behind the weight loss is not negative.
Pictures posted on January 28th feature Nicola with her husband, Brooklyn Peltz Beckham, during a romantic vacation. While many fans loved the pictures, they quickly focused on Peltz’s transformation. As the rumors grew, a source set the story straight.
Nicola Peltz’s Transformation
A source revealed to People magazine that the weight loss is for her upcoming role in the ballerina film Prima.
“She’s undergone a physical transformation and intense workout regimen for her role in ‘Prime,’ where she portrays a prima ballerina,” the insider explained.
The announcement helped ease fans’ worries, proving the change was due to a professional commitment and upcoming film, rather than anything else. Nicola put her body through strict training for the role.
Workouts, Not Medications
Nicola Peltz underwent four months of intense ballet training for the upcoming film, Prima. The actress is poised to play a prima ballerina. The weight loss is for the role, which Nicola used an “intense workout regimen” and “pulled out all the stops.”
The sources confirmed that Nicola never used weight loss medications to achieve her new appearance, instead using a fitness routine of Hot Yoga and indoor cycling. They further noted that Nicola “was never going to use the fat jab.”
What is Prima About?
Prima is focused on the story of Margo (Nicola Peltz Beckham), a dedicated prima ballerina raised by “guardian of the art” grandmother (Faye Dunaway). However, things begin to fall apart when the head of her ballet company (Jack Huston) marries a contemporary choreographer (Betty Gabriel), upending the normal procedures.
What happens next is a power struggle that threatens the institution’s future and the “true cost of absolute dedication to art.”
Nicola Peltz stars alongside Faye Dunaway, Mira Sorvino, and Jack Huston.
Other Actresses Who Lost Weight for Roles
Nicole isn’t the only actress who’s had a physical transformation to play a ballerina.
The most notable transformation was for 2010’s Oscar-nominated Black Swan. Leading actresses Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis went through an intense training routine and diet to get to their final forms in the film.
“My prep was a lot of dancing and very little eating,” Kunis revealed to Vogue in 2025. “I know you’re not supposed to say that, but it’s the truth. I drank a lot of broth and we danced for 12 hours a day.”
Back in 2012, Kunis had also talked about the role transformation for an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, claiming she lost 20 pounds for the role, and that “my body has never been the same. My shape is different. When I got down to 95 pounds, I was muscles, like a little brick house, but skin and bones.”
Jennifer Lawrence had similar feelings when she played an ex-ballerina in Red Sparrow. In an interview with Variety in 2017, she explained it was the first time she had to diet for a role.
“Red Sparrow was the first time that I was really hungry, and disciplined.” Needless to say, Lawrence wasn’t super happy about the preparation.
“I can’t work on a diet,” she said. “I’m hungry. I’m standing on my feet. I need more energy. I remember having a meltdown, freaking out that I had eaten five banana chips.”
