Something no one seems to have seen coming: Pete Davidson becoming one of the biggest heartthrobs of our generation. The comedian has been linked to Kate Beckinsale, Phoebe Dynevor, Ariana Grande, and most recently, Kim Kardashian, whom he is currently dating, and he is well aware that everyone is a little confused by his success with such high-profile women.
But Davidson has an interesting theory on why women are drawn to him — and no, it’s not what you think. Seriously, get your mind out of the gutter! His success with the opposite sex, he says, is because he’s a “diamond in the trash.” As noted by Us Weekly, the SNL star joked about his appeal during his stand-up set at the 9th Annual Patrice O’Neal Comedy Benefit Concert at New York City Center in NYC on Tuesday, January 18.
“There seems to be a curiosity about me is what my friends tell me,” Davidson said during his set. “I was trying to figure out how to explain myself to someone because I was doing an interview.” He went on to compare himself to the discount DVD bin you might see at 7-Eleven — don’t worry, his point eventually becomes clearer.
He explained that you might find films like Shrek Forever After and Tropic Thunder in the discounted bin. But he said that Tropic Thunder is a “classic” that “doesn’t belong in the trash,” which is exactly what he is. “I’m Tropic Thunder,” he joked. “I’m the diamond in the trash. It’s a steal.” (To be clear, Shrek Forever After doesn’t belong in the trash either.)
But perhaps a diamond lost at the bottom of the sea is more fitting, as Davidson’s relationship with Kim Kardashian seems to be heating up. The pair were first linked in October 2021, shortly after Kim’s appearance on SNL, and have since been spotted spending more time together, including on a recent trip to the Bahamas. Sources close to the couple say that their “chemistry is off the charts” and that she was immediately drawn to his sense of humor.
Another reason why fans think Kim is attracted to the comedian? His laid-back approach to life. As many pointed out, during an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians — which was reportedly filmed about a month before she filed for divorce from Kanye West — the star revealed that she had grown tired of her “extravagant” marriage.
“It’s the little things that I don’t have,” Kim said. “I have all the big things. I have [everything] extravagant you could possibly imagine. And no one will ever do it like that [again]. I’m grateful for those experiences [with Kanye], but I think I’m ready for the smaller experiences that I think will mean a lot.”
In November, shortly after she started dating Davidson, a source told Us Weekly, “The past few years of Kim’s life have been super intense a lot of the time, so this is a real positive transition for her. She’s learning to move past day-to-day stresses and focus on the fun and sexy things.”
Whatever the case, good for Pete Davidson. Apparently, diamonds are a girl’s best friend.
