Rachael Ray is the queen of cooking, and now she’s speaking out about her prized diet that has led to her weight loss transformation.
In reality, the transformation was years in the making, and it all comes down to simple, nourishing food.
The Mediterranean Diet

Ray has lost around 40 pounds in recent years, attributing her success to eating well rather than restricting herself. The main component? The Mediterranean diet.
Rachael Ray previously opened up to Dr. Oz about her lifestyle. “It lowers the risk of heart disease, and you can live longer,” she shared.
Plus, she shared the Mediterranean diet may help lower the risk of dementia, and is “heart healthy.”
Pantry Must-Haves
Instead of restricting her diet and eliminating foods, Rachael Ray structures her meals around accessible ingredients that are “easy and fun.”
This means stocking her pantry with lots of staples that allow for a balanced diet. This includes olive oil, tomatoes, herbs, pasta, and grains.
Ray explained, “Dried beans and grains like farro, all of these you can get in a can. They are high protein, high fiber and nutrient dense.”
Fresh Produce

Along with stocking the pantry, Ray stocks her fridge with fresh produce. The colorful vegetables are a crucial part of her diet, forming the backbone for all of her meals with ingredients like peppers, garlic, spinach, and beets.
Ray explained, “You don’t need a multi vitamin, you need the rainbow of vegetables.”
Protein & Seafood
Another huge part of Ray’s diet is protein and seafood.
Rachael Ray especially enjoys adding eggs to her meals, stating, “Another important source of protein is eggs, because they are nutrient rich and not expensive.”
As for preference between brown and white-shelled eggs? Ray enjoys eating the brown-shelled eggs.
Seafood is also a must, especially selections that are rich in healthy fats.
Ray has shared her enjoyment of fresh fish and sardines, explaining they are “good fats” and can be paired with lemon juice to enhance the flavor.
Prioritizing Health
It’s not just about what is in her meals; it’s also about how Rachael Ray eats them that contributes to her health.
Ray prefers to eat her salad after the main course, attributing the decision to a “digestive thing.” The habit has been praised as smart and reflects Ray’s thoughtfulness about her overall health in recent years.
She’s kept a relatively low profile after a few health issues, though she seems to have bounced back better than before. One such event was “a couple of bad falls” in 2024 while carrying firewood outside her home in New York.
