Below are six of the worst foods for prostate health you should try to avoid or eat less of to avoid complications.

6. Sugary Foods

Scientists believe that sugar intake could increase prostate-specific antigen levels, which could indicate a sign of cancer or other concerns. Sugary foods to limit include desserts, frozen dairy treats, cereal, breads and pastas, yogurt, crackers, etc. These foods can also lead to other health problems such as weight gain, heart disease, diabetes, and other types of cancer.

5. Pork

Fifth on our list of the worst foods for prostate health is pork. While some may refer to pork as white meat, the U.S. Department of Agriculture states that pork is actually red meat. Consuming a large amount of red meat is not always good for your prostate, which is explained further on. Limiting pork can help with the risk of prostate cancer.

4. Dairy

Next on our list of the worst foods for prostate health is dairy, which includes milk, cheese, yogurt, frozen yogurt, ice cream, and butter. While there isn’t a definitive reason why, there is evidence that dairy may raise the risk for prostate cancer, but the risk is quite small. Some scientists point to the high levels of calcium, while others think dairy tends to be higher in fat. To be on the safe side, you can lower the amount of dairy you consume.

3. Processed Meats

Rounding out our top three worst foods for prostate health is processed meats. While more research is needed for this food group, one review found a potential link between processed meats and prostate cancer, though the risk wasn’t high. Processed meats include bacon, deli meats, sausage, hot dogs, smoked meat, beef jerky, corned beef, or canned meats.

2. Fried Foods

Second on our list of the worst foods for prostate health is fried food. Commonplace at social events, restaurants, and our own homes, fried food may be tasty, but it comes with several health risks. Research has found that people who ate more fried food had a 35% increased rate of prostate cancer. Popular fried foods include French fries, corn dogs, fried cheese sticks, fried chicken, potato chips, fried vegetables, donuts, etc.

Last but not least on our list of the worst foods for prostate health is beef, or red meat. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), red meat is “probably carcinogenic to humans.” There has been some research that has shown possible links to an increased prostate cancer risk with increased red meat consumption. To help improve your health, you can lower beef consumption, along with other red meats.
