Cameron Diaz started the year with a new role: mom! On Friday, the 47-year-old actress announced the birth of her first child with husband Benji Madden, a daughter named Raddix Madden. The couple welcomed their baby girl at the end of 2019.
“Happy New Year from the Maddens!” the proud new parents wrote on Instagram. “We are so happy, blessed and grateful to begin this new decade by announcing the birth of our daughter, Raddix Madden. She has instantly captured our hearts and completed our family.”
“We are overjoyed to share this news,” Diaz continued.

While Diaz has not publicly shared the details of her journey to motherhood, a source close to the couple told E News!that it was not easy. “[Cameron and Benji] had gone through so many different chapters and phases where they thought this would never happen. It's literally a dream come true and all very worth the wait,” the source said.
The source continued: “They wanted this for so long and so many years it's all very surreal.”

Over the years, the actress has been very candid about her choice not to have children. “I'm sure a lot of people would expect that I would have had a child by my age. But it's not what I've wanted out of my life thus far,” she said in 2012. “We still live in a largely chauvinistic world. There's a box people put themselves in, and when you [live] outside of it, that makes them uncomfortable—they have to look at themselves and question their own choices.”
However, she never said never. After marrying the Good Charlotte singer in 2015, Diaz's desire to have kids became known. “She has settled in, settled down and wants to have a family,” a source told People. “She is doing everything she can to enjoy this time in her life. She is feeling fulfilled and wants to be a mom.”

“Getting married to him was the best thing that ever happened to me. My husband’s the best,” Diaz told InStyle. But just as they are notoriously private about their relationship, we expect Diaz and Madden to be the same when it comes to their daughter.
“While we are overjoyed to share this news, we also feel a strong instinct to protect our little one's privacy. So we won't be posting pictures or sharing any more details, other than the fact that she is really really cute,” the parents concluded in their Instagram announcement.
