One of the biggest beauty trends to emerge during the pandemic was pink hair. Searches for “pink hair dye” skyrocketed, and the cotton candy color was suddenly everywhere. It seemed like every week over the past year there was a new celebrity with pink hair, solidifying the shade’s position in the beauty space. And the trendy hue doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, either.
Chrissy Teigen was the latest celeb to undergo a pink hair transformation. Just last week, she debuted her rosy new look on Instagram, tagging hairstylists Irinel de León and Tracey Cunningham. The soft, pastel pink shade, is a stark contrast to her signature honey-blonde shade, and unlike some of the other times Teigen has experimented with bold hair colors, this is the real deal—not a wig.
Other celebs that came before her with pink hair include Ciara, Demi Lovato, January Jones, and even Madonna. So, why has the playful shade become so popular? “The main reasons are simple: Pink is such a happy color and because of its pastel shade, it still feels light and bright, the way blonde hair does,” celebrity hairstylist Kristin Ess told Allure. Makes sense, considering the year we’ve had and the fact that we’re starting to sense some normalcy just in time for another hot girl summer.
