First they came for our skinny jeans, and now they’re after our beloved hairstyle. According to Gen Z, the side part is out. The generation recently took to their favorite social media platform, Tiktok, to let their elders (aka anyone over 25) know that side part hairstyles are being replaced by the middle part.
Swearing that it is the more flattering part, Zoomers are trying to convince millennials that parting your hair down the middle will make you look more youthful while the side part will make you look, well, old. “Prove me wrong, but I don’t think there is a single person who looks better with a side part than they do a middle part,” Gen-Z TikTok user @Lady-Gleep said in one video. “I think the middle part is just far more supreme.”
The thing is, I strongly disagree. It’s going to take a lot more than a viral Tiktok challenge to convince me that the side part is going out of style—and that’s not just because I’ve been wearing one since, well, I can remember. While I honestly love both looks, the side part has so many strengths. Sweeping your hair to the side softens the face by highlighting different focal points and facial features, giving you so much control.

A side part also creates instant volume and texture, increasing the perceived thickness of one’s hair. It works well on all hair textures and lengths, too, whether you are rocking a pixie, bob, braids or long locks. So, while Gen Z wants us to believe otherwise, the side part isn’t going anywhere anytime soon—and I’ve got the receipts to prove it.
Here, a roundup of celebrities who prove side part hairstyles still reign supreme. (And before you ask, no, not everyone on this list is over 30.)
