In August, Chrissy Teigen joyfully announced she was expecting her third child with husband John Legend. But she has just shared some heartbreaking news: After experiencing placenta complications, she has suffered a pregnancy loss.
In an emotional post on Instagram, Teigen wrote: “We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before.” Her message is accompanied by a series of black and white photos that seem to indicate she had to give birth halfway through her high-risk pregnancy; it’s unclear whether the baby was stillborn or died shortly after birth.
Teigen goes on to explain that her pregnancy was complicated by placenta issues, and she was suffering from excessive bleeding, leading her to be hospitalized over the weekend. “We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough,” she wrote.
In her heart-wrenching post, Teigen also included an apology to her baby boy, who she says they had named Jack. “To our Jack – I’m so sorry that the first few moments of your life were met with so many complications, that we couldn’t give you the home you needed to survive. We will always love you,” she wrote.
“Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be, forever.”
The grieving mother finished by thanking her friends and followers for their thoughts and prayers. Her post has since been met with much support, as well as gratitude from other women who have suffered the same, often in silence. Pregnancy loss impacts so many women, and by sharing her experience, Teigen reminds others that they are not alone.
After leaving the hospital, Teigen tweeted: “Driving home from the hospital with no baby. How can this be real.”
Our deepest condolences go out to Teigen, Legend, and their family. The couple share two kids together, Luna, 4, and Miles, 2.
