It's news that’s been long awaited: Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton are engaged! The couple announced their engagement on Tuesday, making it Instagram official.
“Yes please!” Stefani captioned a photo of herself and Shelton kissing. In the photo, she is holding up her left hand to show off her engagement ring. And although it isn't clear in the photo, it appears to be a nice-sized rock taking up space on her ring finger!
Shelton also announced the exciting news on his Instagram, sharing the same PDA-packed photo with a sweet caption. “Hey @gwenstefani thanks for saving my 2020… And the rest of my life.” he wrote. “I love you. I heard a YES!”
No other details on the proposal were shared in their posts, but sources told Us Weekly that the couple got engaged just a few days before they made the news public. According to insiders, Shelton planned a traditional proposal in Oklahoma, where they’ve spent much of the year together quarantining.
“Blake had the ring custom-designed, and asked permission from her dad before asking Gwen.” a source said. “It meant so much to Gwen that Blake was so traditional about it.”
Stefani and Shelton have been dating for five years. Both co-judges on The Voice, they were confirmed to be in a relationship in November 2015. Friends close to the couple say they first bonded over their respective divorces. Stefani was previously married to Gavin Rossdale, with whom she shares two kids, while Shelton was married to Miranda Lambert and Kaynette William prior to that.
The couple has often opened up about how their love saved them from that heartbreak, and they have collaborated on several duets, including the chart-topping Nobody But You. “When you're where she and I were, and you just feel so betrayed and on bottom, this bond that we formed when we found out what each other were going through, it's still there,” Shelton told People at the time.
Stefani shared similar sentiments with Harper’s Bazaar in 2016. “It was like being handed this gift of a friend who was going through the exact same thing at the exact same time and then everything flipped,” she said. “It went from horrible to, like, hopeful and like, ‘Wow, God, you just don't know what's gonna happen next.’”
Well, we all know what happened next. The happy couple has been together ever since, and now they are officially taking the next step in their relationship.
