The proud mom announced Baby Mae’s arrival alongside a beautifully-intimate family photo on Instagram. In the black-and-white photo, Duff and her daughter, Banks, are seen cradling the newborn in a birthing pool. Koma and Duff’s son, Luca, look on from the side.
“Mae James Bair – We LOVE you beauty 3-24-21,” Duff captioned the post.
Mae is a younger sibling to 9-year-old Luca, Duff’s son with ex Mike Comrie, and 2-year-old Banks, Duff’s daughter with Koma.
Duff first teased the birth of her third child a day earlier, posting a photo of Banks in the bathtub with the caption, “I’m a big sister ……. marinating on how I feel about that!”
She also took to Instagram stories to share more family moments following Mae’s birth. In one, Duff is breastfeeding the newborn while big sister Banks sweetly kisses her head.
In another, big brother Luca admires his youngest sister with a big smile. And finally, a close up of Mae’s precious face as she snuggles up to Duff’s chest.
Duff also shared a photo of the team of doulas and midwives who helped her give birth to Mae at home. “Mountains of love for this birthing dream team!” she wrote.
Duff’s Younger co-star, Molly Bernard, who also serves as godmother to Banks, was one of the women present at Mae’s birth. She shared her account of the intimate moment in an Instagram post, congratulating praising the parents.
“I’m not exactly sure how to put into words the beauty of watching and championing the ever fierce @hilaryduff give birth to Baby Mae,” she wrote. “I have never witnessed any event that is simultaneously expansive and so finite, so personal. The grace that both Hilary and Matthew have is truly limitless.”

Bernard continued: “The go-time moments before Mae was born left me with the distinct feeling of surprise that the room wasn’t levitating with the abundance of supportive and focused energy.
“It is no small thing to bring a child into this world, and I am basking in amazement at the strength of my friend. Her patience, ferocity, groundedness, clarity and love.”
Duff announced her pregnancy in October 2020 by sharing a photo of Koma rubbing her baby bump. In December, she told People they would wait until the birth to find out the baby’s sex.
“The way we are creating some excitement within the family is to wait to find out the sex on the baby’s birthday,” she said.
Now that the secret is out, everyone in the family seems overjoyed by the addition of another girl. Koma celebrated his #girldad status by wearing a hat that reads “GIRL” following Mae’s birth.
Congratulations to Duff’s growing family.
