Just a little over two year after getting engaged, Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez have confirmed their breakup. In an exclusive joint statement with Today, the pair announced that they have called off their engagement and will focus on remaining friends.
“We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so,” the statement reads. “We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other and one another’s children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support.”
Speculation of a breakup began circulating in March after rumors of Rodriguez cheating started circulating on social media. However, the couple shut down the chatter, telling Today that they were not officially broken up. “All the reports are inaccurate. We are working through some things,” Lopez and Rodriguez said at the time.

Lopez later told Allure for its March 2021 issue that she and Rodriguez had tried couples therapy during quarantine. “It has been actually really good. We got to work on ourselves. We did therapy. I think it was really helpful for us in our relationship,” she told the publication.
But earlier this week, fans noticed that J.Lo hasn’t been wearing her engagement ring in social media posts, and their split has now been confirmed.
The couple first started dating in 2017, and their relationship quickly became front page news. Attending red carpet events together, Lopez and Rodriguez were known to gush over each other while dating. And in March 2019, they announced their engagement. Their wedding was planned for 2020, but put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Yesterday, in a post on Instagram, Rodriguez wrote: “Every day, I’m grateful. For my health, family, friends and life’s many blessings.”
