Country singer Jo Dee Messina is speaking out about her fitness transformation.
Spread over two years of hard work, Messina has shed the pounds through workouts and not GLP-1s or other weight loss drugs.
Needing a Change
Jo Dee Messina decided she needed to change her ways.
“I started to see pictures of myself and I didn’t recognize myself,” the singer explained to host Evan Paul on the Taste of Country podcast.
“I wouldn’t let people take pictures. I’m like, ‘Stop taking pictures of me. I don’t even know who that is.’ It’s so gross, you know? So I was like, ‘I’m going to do something about it. And it’s been two years.'”
No GLP-1s
Unlike many other celebrities today, Jo Dee Messina wanted no part of GLP-1s or other weight loss pills. She instead decided that working out in the gym was the best way to shed the pounds.
She shared during the podcast, “This isn’t like, hey, let’s pop a pill and be skinny in a month. This is like, keep going, keep going, keep going.”
That continual push to be hard on herself and work out consistently allowed Messina to shed the pounds and find her ideal body.
Muscle Gains
Along with deciding not to use GLP-1s, Messina talked about her muscle gains and which workouts she liked and didn’t care for.
During the interview, she said she was sore because “yesterday was leg day which — I can’t stand leg day.” Her trainer changes up her routine “every four to six weeks. And so it was all new exercises” she had to complete, much to the dislike of her leg muscles.
She joked, “If I ever got pulled over on the day after leg day, I would probably be arrested. I could not walk in a straight line. They’d be like, ‘What’s wrong with you?’ I don’t push through the pain. I give in to it. And I’m like, ‘Okay, I’m just going to wobble.'”
So what workout did she do on the day of the podcast? Her arms.
“Today was tricep day, people. Let’s just show you the triceps.”
Messina took off her denim jacket and showed off her arms, adding, “We got this going on. I was like, oh this is the perfect day to wear sleeveless…this is pumped from today. It doesn’t always look this pumped, but it’s pumped.”
Paul said, “You’re ripped. I don’t want to say anything wrong, you’ll kick my ass.”
Messina’s Goal
Jo Dee Messina had a goal in mind when she started her weight loss journey.
“Anyways, it’s been a process. I have a goal.” Messina wants to be able to run across the stage to perform songs for her new album, Bridges.
“This new record, I keep saying, ‘Okay, I got to start back running.’ I do cardio, but I got to start that long running stuff, because I run all over the stage and this new stuff’s not easy to sing live,” she explained. “When you’re in the studio, you’re standing there, but when you’re live on a festival stage, you’re running from side to side. So you got to start, you know, running cardio.”
While no numbers have been announced for exactly how much Messina has lost over the two years, you can tell based on social media posts that it’s a lot.
Messina has shared her weight loss journey in a series of pictures and aims to be in top shape for her upcoming concerts.
