Katie Lee Biegel is opening up about her health.

Not only does she talk about dealing with perimenopause, but how taking GLP-1s has helped her shed some pounds and gain her energy back.

Starting a GLP-1

During the April 16th episode of her All on the Table podcast, Katie Lee Biegel opened up about taking GLP-1s after struggling with weight gain from perimenopause.

She started by saying, “I don’t want to gatekeep. I’ve just been feeling so good physically, mentally, professionally. One of the reasons is, I started a GLP-1.”

“I have had this extra weight that I was carrying around and I did not feel good about myself. And I was feeling like that for years,” she added.

Biegel said her doctor explained the experience was normal for women dealing with perimenopause, and was the one to recommend taking a GLP-1. Popular brands include Ozempic and Mounjaro, with many celebrities getting on the trend of using them to shed a few extra pounds.

After using the medication for a bit, Katie Lee Biegel is getting results.”I not only have lost weight, I am sleeping better, I actually feel clearer.”

She was also happy to share her experiences with periomenopause, taking away some of the stigma and making them seem more “normal.”

Below is her full statement about using the GLP-1 from her Substack Katie Lee Kitchen:

“Today’s podcast is a personal one and I am guessing I will probably get some push back from some people. Here’s the thing, I’m not one to gatekeep, I’m a sharer. If I like something, I’m going to tell you. I have always found it to be disingenuous when public-facing people simplify or leave out details for how they stay in shape, how they stay young, etc., that end up not telling the whole truth. A few months ago, I started taking a GLP-1 and I love it.”

“I am 44 now, I am at the age of perimenopause and I have no shame whatsoever in saying that I found myself needing some help to take off a few pounds. I had been exercising 5 days a week, eating healthy, and I was still gaining weight. It may not have been noticeable to others, but it was to me. And I didn’t like it. I get into the nitty gritty on the podcast, so if you want to know more, tune in. The more we talk about things like this, the less taboo they become.”

Relationship with Food

While Biegel was excited about feeling better, she was a little nervous about taking a GLP-1. However, it wasn’t for the reason you think.

She was worried because her career is centered around food and cooking, and didn’t want to start taking the GLP-1 and no longer be excited about food. Thankfully, that was not the case.

“Not at all,” she shared. “I still love eating. I’m still excited about food. I’m just not overeating anymore.”

Not Ashamed

Biegel shared a clip from the podcast on Instagram about her journey, standing by her transparency and not being ashamed of her choices.

She wrote, “I will probably get some push back about this, but I’m not the least bit ashamed, and I think it is important to share. I think a lot of public-facing people keep things like this to themselves, they’ll say ‘it’s moderation and exercise,’ but I think that can make other women going through the same thing feel bad about themselves.”

Katie Lee Biegel added, “I’d rather just put it all out there. Perimenopause — the struggle is real!”
