Katy Perry has given birth to her first child with fiance Orlando Bloom, a daughter named Daisy Dove Bloom. The couple, who are Unicef Goodwill ambassadors, announced their daughter's arrival on the organization’s social media accounts while sharing a message about health disparities.
“We are floating with love and wonder from the safe and healthy arrival of our daughter,” the proud parents shared alongside a beautiful black and white photo of the newborn holding their hands. While the post didn’t reveal any further details on Perry’s birth, they went on to say that it was “peaceful” process—one they know not all mothers have the privilege of experiencing.
“But we know we’re the lucky ones and not everyone can have a birthing experience as peaceful as ours was. Communities around the world are still experiencing a shortage of healthcare workers and every eleven seconds a pregnant woman or newborn dies, mostly from preventable causes,” they continued. “Since COVID-19 many more newborn lives are at risk because of the increased lack of access to water, soap, vaccines and medicines that prevent diseases. As parents to a newborn, this breaks our hearts, as we empathize with struggling parents now more than ever.”
Perry and Bloom finished the post by sharing a donation page to help at-risk expecting mothers. “The most precious gift: a healthy child,” they wrote. Perry then shared the same photo and message on her own Instagram, which has already received nearly 2.5 million likes.
The “Daisies” singer first revealed she was pregnant back in March through the music video for her song “Never Worn White” from the same album. She later commented on the news via Twitter, joking: “Omg so glad I don’t have to suck it in anymore.”
And although it was a surprise to fans, the 35-year-old's pregnancy was no surprise to the couple. In an interview with Apple music, Perry explained how her and Bloom were “both conscious about” having a baby. “We were both ready. It was no mistake,” she said, adding, “It was no accident and we were ready. The only thing I wasn't necessarily prepared for is COVID and American revolution at the same time.”
She later opened about the struggles she has faced while being pregnant during a pandemic. “Every day your options change, and you don't know what's what. Especially being pregnant in a pandemic, it's an emotional roller coaster,” she said in an interview with People, crediting her sanity to having a good partner in Bloom.
Bloom also shares a son Flynn, 9, with ex-wife Miranda Kerr.
