Katy Perry Says She Quit Shaving Her Legs After Becoming A Mom

There’s no denying it: After giving birth, your priorities change. And Katy Perry, who became a new mom last year, recently opened up about the grooming habit she no longer prioritizes.

During the latest episode of American Idol on Sunday, April 4, the award-winning musician and TV personality revealed that shaving her legs just isn’t worth her precious time. When responding to Cassandra Coleman’s performance of “Find Me” and “Apologize” with Ryan Tedder, Perry referenced her leg hair.

“Your voice is a spiritual experience. It is other worldly, angelic,” she told the contestant. “As a new mother I don’t have very much time, so I’ve quit shaving my legs. But when you sang, the hair on my legs grew an inch an a half. Full body chills! It was amazing.”

To prove her point, the “Smile” singer kicked her feet up on the judge’s table so the camera could zoom in. Fellow judge Luke Bryan confirmed, “She literally has leg hair.”

American Idol later tweeted a photo of Katy Perry’s leg hair, using a popular meme format in the caption. And although many followers pointed out how smooth her legs look in the shot, the singer doubled down on her body hair.

Perry also took to Twitter to address the viral moment, posting her own meme in response to fans. “An actual live look at my leg hair while I hear @casscoleman sing,” she captioned a GIF of hair sprouting up all over a pair of legs.

Perry and her partner Orlando Bloom welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Daisy, in August 2020. “We are floating with love and wonder from the safe and healthy arrival of our daughter,” they said in the birth announcement.

Later that fall, the new mom returned to work as a judge on the 19th season of American Idol. “Popular misconception: being a mom isn’t a full-time job,” she tweeted shortly after her return to set. “Part 2: when a mom finally goes back to work (whatever profession they do) it’s not like they been coming from months of ‘time off …’ she’s coming from a full-time job … of being a mom, lol.”

Being a working mom on the set of the ABC competition show is no walk in the park, but Perry has made it clear that she is happy to be back and thankful for the support of costars. “Being a new mother can be really challenging, but the guys have been so great and so supportive,” she said in a promo video, referring to judges Luke Byran and Lionel Richie.

The praise has been reciprocated, too. “It’s just really amazing being there with Katy and watching her [be a mom],” Bryan said of Perry. “Just watching Katy embrace being a mother is a very beautiful thing to watch. I never had a doubt she would be a tremendous mother.”

He continued: “Katy’s in the full swing of things with nursing, so we’ve had to work around her schedule. But she’s been a trouper and showing up and working like she always does. I know she’s doing it on minimal sleep, so she’s a rockstar.”

A rockstar indeed.
