After years of speculation, the highly-anticipated Sex and the City revival is officially happening. The hit show will be returning to our screens as a limited series on HBO Max called And Just Like That.
On Sunday, Sarah Jessica Parker and her fellow cast members, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis, posted a video on social media to announce the news. The teaser shows bustling scenes from New York City cut between a computer screen.
“And just like that,” is shown being typed on the screen with Parker’s signature voiceover. “The story continues…”
According to Variety, the limited series will consist of 10 half-hour episodes. And Just Like That will follow Carrie Bradshaw (Parker), Charlotte York (Davis), and Miranda Hobbes (Nixon) as they navigate relationships in their 50s.
Kim Cattrall will not be returning to revive her role as Samantha Jones, which comes as no surprise following the public feud between castmates. “Samantha isn’t part of this story. But she will always be a part of us. No matter where we are or what we do,” Parker confirmed in response to a fan’s comment on Instagram.
Cattrall has yet to comment on the news, and fans are pretty upset by her absence. “Sex and the City without Kim Cattrall is like watching porn without Sex. Samantha is the powerhouse of #Sexandthecity,” wrote one on Twitter. It is still unclear how the missing character will be addressed in this new chapter.

Despite the controversy, the announcement has been met with plenty of excitement from both those involved and fans of the OG hit series. “I grew up with these characters, and I can’t wait to see how their story has evolved in this new chapter, with the honesty, poignancy, humor, and the beloved city that has always defined them,” Sarah Aubrey, head of original content at HBO Max, said in a statement.
Per Deadline, Parker, Nixon, and Davis will executive produce the streaming series, along with Michael Patrick King, who directed a number of original episodes and wrote and directed both feature films. The premiere date for And Just Like That has not been announced, but it is scheduled to begin production in New York late spring.
