From flattering curtain bangs to French fringe, bangs seem to be having their big moment in the spotlight. Zooey Deschanel and her signature style are making a serious comeback, Euphoria’s Hunter Schafer is bringing back blunt baby bangs, Lily Collins has been wearing wispy bangs – and now, Kristen Stewart is showing us how to sport the bottleneck bang trend.

During a recent appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, the actress wore a messy updo that highlighted her new haircut. Her bangs have been snipped short and blunt across her forehead with longer pieces on the side framing her face. The style, dubbed “bottleneck bangs” by Glamour, is an edgier take on the trendy curtain bang.

And although it may sound like a strange cut, Stewart looks absolutely stunning with bottleneck bangs. See proof here:

“This hairstyle takes inspiration from the neck of a bottle, starting slim and short in the middle, curving longer around the eyes, and then longest following the line of the cheekbone,” Tom Smith of Evo told Glamour in December. “This allows the length and angle to be adjusted depending on whether you want to make your cheekbones appear wider or stronger.”

He added that bottleneck bangs are a great choice for someone who wants classic bangs, but is worried that the “solid horizontal line across the face” won’t be best suited for their features. This version of the style with choppier lines and longer angles, he said, adds “softness to the face.”

And believe it or not, bottleneck bangs are pretty versatile. You can style them straight across the forehead, as demonstrated here by Stewart, or part them down the center like curtain bangs when you’re not in the mood to wear a bolder look. The tiered fringe is more adaptable than other bang styles and works on all hair types, too.

So, if you’re still wondering if you should get bangs, allow Kristen Stewart’s bottleneck bangs to inspire your next cut.
